Arsenal v Liverpool

Carter could make his first Arsenal start for five months although youngsters Selley and Heaney are also named in 16-strong squad for tomorrow's televised tussle. Arsenal missing: Bould (thigh), Limpar (calf), Flatts (knee) while Wright and Jensen are banned. Liverpool harbour doubts over Rush (groin) and Piechnik (hamstring) but Nicol (ribs) and McManaman (groin) should return.

Chelsea v Sheffield Wednesday

Kharin and Spencer make their home debuts for Chelsea who are confident Townsend (migraine bouts) will also start. Cascarino is also named for the first time this season. Wednesday have trouble up front: Bright (knee) looks likely to join Hirst (pulled muscle) on the sidelines so Warhurst and Bart-Williams could form a makeshift alliance. Palmer may play in defence if Pearson (knee) struggles.

Coventry City v Wimbledon

Billing may earn top billing for Coventry for first time in two months in place of the injured Gallacher. Ndlovu back in Zimbabwe to tackle Angola. Fashanu, the Dons' gladiator, plays with a broken hand while McAllister (ban) replaces Elkins (ban).

Crystal Palace v Tottenham

Palace lacking Williams (cut ankle) but Young (suspension) returns for Sinnott or Humphrey. Gray, the ex-Palace midfielder, has recovered from groin trouble for rare Spurs outing. Durie (groin) sidelined again.

Everton v Norwich City

Cottee chases another double for Everton, who have Rideout (ban) back. Revived Norwich, good value at 25-1 for the title, include Johnson and Sutch, probably battling for bench space alongside Robins.

Ipswich v Manchester United

The big match. Yallop waits to discover whether his first goal in four years will keep him in the Ipswich starting side. Whelan and Bozinoski were also drafted in at Spurs in midweek, but Stockwell, Wark and Whitton return to a 17-man squad. Despite the nine stitches in an ankle wound, Hughes remains in United's unchanged side, as Fergie's co-favourites seek a 13th game unbeaten.

Leeds United v Middlesbrough

Strandli, Norwegian striker, has a work permit and could replace Chapman (groin) in Leeds line-up while McAllister (ankle) is doubtful. Fleming (knee) is fit for Boro, so Hignett is on the bench.

Manchester City v Blackburn

City miss versatile Flitcroft (ban) but Curle (hamstring) could return, otherwise Ingebrigtsen will make his debut. Blackburn ready to ice Berg in absence of May (ban). Wright (knee) and Moran (leg) face tests.

Nottingham Forest v Oldham

Forest already missing Pearce (groin) and could now lose his deputy Williams (hip) and Webb (Achilles tendon). Woan or Charles may be pressed into action at left-back while Stone, Crosby, Orlygsson and Black will vie for Webb's midfield spot. The mature strikers who put the old into Oldham, 32-year-old Ritchie (back) and 34-year-old birthday boy Palmer (calf), hope to be fit but Moulden and Tolson called into a 17-man squad as cover. Brennan (groin) fit again.

Sheffield United v QPR

Deane v Ferdinand in a match-up of potential San Marino maulers. Cork (neck) is a Sheffield United worry so Littlejohn (ban) stands by. Cork, Beesley and Gage face last-minute checks. Rangers without Sinton (back) so White pushes for full debut.

Southampton v Aston Villa

Monkou (hamstring) should return for Moore in heart of Saints' defence but Cockerill (calf) and Groves (Achilles tendon) are doubts. If Villa's Houghton (groin) fails to make the start the capable Breitkreutz is set to continue.
