Football: Schmeichel passed fit
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

'I have watched the last 20 FA Cup finals on television, either at home in Denmark or here in England,' he said. 'But now I'm actually going to take part in one and it's such a great thrill.'
There were few thrills for Birmingham City over the past year and the players are continuing to pay for the club's relegation to the Second Division. Their manager, Barry Fry, yesterday added the club's leading scorer last season, Paul Peschisolido, to the 12 players he had already put on the transfer list. The Canadian international, rated by the club at about pounds 250,000, scored 10 goals in 23 starts, but his appearances were restricted by injury problems.
A crowd of 42,630 packed Lansdowne Road, Dublin, last night to watch a testimonial match for Kevin Moran, the Blackburn Rovers and Republic of Ireland defender. Moran, who has won 70 caps, scored from the penalty spot as he led the Republic of Ireland's World Cup squad to a 5-1 victory over a Premier League XI including Alan Shearer, Gary McAllister and Andy Cole.
