Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Internazionale lost their perfect record when they drew 1-1 at home with Lazio last night but they remain top of Serie A. The visitors went ahead after 35 minutes through the Czech Pavel Nedved but Ronaldo equalised with a penalty six minutes later.

Juventus came from behind to beat Fiorentina 2-1 with goals from Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero.

The Argentinian Abel Balbo scored a hat-trick which included his 100th Serie A goal in Roma's 6-2 defeat of Napoli at the Olympic Stadium. Bologna's Roberto Baggio, omitted from Cesare Maldini's squad for Italy's match against England, was sent off in the goalless draw at Piacenza.

Milan claimed their first league victory of the season at the fifth attempt when they won 1-0 at newly-promoted Empoli, thanks to a second-half goal by the Swede Andreas Andersson.

The Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal was barracked by the Nou Camp crowd before the only goal of the second half, by Luis Enrique, gave the Spanish leaders a 3-2 win against Tenerife.

Fabrizio Ravanelli's debut for Marseille had to be put on hold because he had flu but the French club still won 2-0 against Toulouse.

Bayern Munich maintained the pressure on the leaders Kaiserslautern with a 3-2 win at Bochum while Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Arminia Bielfeld. The European champions are now 16th in the Bundesliga. The former Leeds striker Tony Yeboah scored his first goal for Hamburg in a 5-2 defeat at VfB Stuttgart.
