From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid playmaker, currently back home with Croatia Zagreb revealed that he would like to move to England and envisaged no problems adapting to the game here. "After my time in Spain, I know that I would have no problems settling after living there."

Middlesbrough's manager, Bryan Robson, will not pay over the odds for the Wimbledon striker Dean Holdsworth. Robson has only part of Fabrizio Ravanelli's pounds 5.3m fee from the move to Marseilles to spend. Some of it will go to Juventus as the final pay-off on his pounds 7m move to the Riverside Stadium last year.

Holdsworth worked under Robson when he was in the England B squad. The Boro manager said: "Holdsworth is the best available but I am looking at other players as well."

Bolton Wanderers will have to do without Mark Fish for a month. The South African defender, who arrived from Lazio only last month for pounds 2.5m, underwent a cartilage operation after exploratory checks showed some damage.

Jamie Redknapp has completed his first full game since breaking his leg playing for England last May. The midfielder was one of three Liverpool comeback men who took part in a practice match against Crewe yesterday. The other two, Neil Ruddock and Ovyind Leonhardsen, also came through the specially-arranged run-out unscathed. Crewe won the game 1-0.

Coventry City have lodged an appeal with the Football Association following Dion Dublin's dismissal in Sunday's Premiership game at Blackburn. The Sky Blues want the referee, Peter Jones, to view a video of the incident when Dublin clashed with Colin Hendry and was sent off for allegedly using his elbow.

Carlisle United may face punishment after referee Jeff Winter was hit in the face by an object thrown from a home fans' area as he walked off the pitch at half-time during the Coca-Cola Cup tie against Tottenham at Brunton Park on Tuesday.
