Football: Plymouth bar the way for Buzaglo

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Plymouth Argyle. . .2
FOR Tim Buzaglo, a hat-trick hero when his former club, Woking, dismissed West Bromwich Albion from the FA Cup three seasons ago, there was no fairy- tale return to the grand stage.
After being out of the game for 18 months with a serious knee injury, Buzaglo joined Marlow, of the Diadora League, earlier this year in an attempt to rekindle his career. Yesterday, though, he had to play second fiddle to Plymouth Argyle's left winger, Paul Dalton, who scored two second-half goals to steer Peter Shilton's side through this potentially perilous tie.
The Buckinghamshire team made a bright start, with Neil Catlin, Trevor Baron and Dave Lay coming close while, at the other end, Kevin Mitchell, the home goalkeeper, had to claw away a header from Steve Castle, Argyle's captain and top scorer.
Buzaglo was being well contained by the experienced Adrian Burrows, and his speedy striking partner, Garfield Blackman, was given little opportunity to display his pace up front. The wily Steve McCall and Wayne Burnett were looking confident in midfield for Argyle, who gradually gained an advantage as the first half progressed.
Kevin Nugent and Dalton both missed chances to open the visitors' account before Marlow made their best chance of the first period two minutes into injury time. Blackman lifted the ball over the visitors' defence to find Mark Watkins in the clear, but he allowed Alan Nicholls to advance and smother his shot.
At last, Buzaglo sprang into life just after the interval, accepting a lay-off from Watkins and thrashing a tremendous shot a foot wide. Marlow enjoyed their best spell of the match early in the second half, with Blackman and Baron both having shots deflected wide within a minute.
Plymouth, however, should have taken the lead on the hour, when Baron's slip allowed the substitute, Dwight Marshall, a clear run at goal. His shot was pushed away by Mitchell only as far as Castle, who missed badly.
Four minutes later Argyle were ahead. Lay fouled McCall on the left flank and Dalton curled his free-kick just inside the far post, with the goalkeeper perhaps distracted by Castle's lunge for the ball.
Visibly deflated, Marlow never threatened to repair the damage. Marshall and Castle missed further chances for the Second Division side before, in the last minute, Dalton, put through by Marshall, skipped round Mitchell to complete the scoring with a neat low shot.
