From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Giovanni Martusciello headed Empoli into a 25th-minute lead and Claudio Bonomi made it 2-0 in first-half injury-time.
Parma are now six points adrift of third-placed Internazionale and seven behind Lazio, both of whom won 4-0 on Saturday to keep the pressure on the leaders, Juventus.
However, Juve's slump, which has helped create the tightest Serie A title race since 1981, continued as they let the bottom club, Napoli, claw back a 2-2 draw, prompting their coach, Marcello Lippi, to scream at his team for an hour in the dressing-room after the match.
Fiorentina could only scrape a 1-1 draw with Lecce, who are second from bottom, and Milan drew 2-2 at Brescia. Roma survived the dismissal of their goalkeeper to beat Bari 2-1.
Fiorentina were trailing to Maurizio Rossi's strike midway through the second-half before the Belgian international Luis Oliveira equalised in the 86th minute.
Bari's defence went to sleep when the Brazilian Paulo Sergio lobbed the ball home in the second minute at the Olympic stadium, but then Roma had their Austrian goalkeeper, Michael Konsel, sent off in the 41st minute for a foul on Gianluca Zambrotta outside the area. Zambrotta got revenge, scoring a 52nd-minute equaliser, before Aldair, Roma's Brazilian defender, notched the winner with 10 minutes left.
Georges Weah scored both goals Milan's goals in the draw against Brescia, who went ahead through Dario Hubner's first-half penalty. Weah equalised before running 40 yards for a solo second goal. Brescia's substitute, Girolamo Bizzarri, equalised in the 68th minute.
On Saturday, Bayern Munich struggled to a goalless draw at home to VfL Bochum that left them nine points adrift of the Bundesliga leaders, Kaiserslautern. It was Bayern's fifth consecutive goalless game.
"Now we can say auf wiedersehen to the championship," the Bayern coach, Giovanni Trapattoni, said.
Kaiserslautern beat 1860 Munich 1-0 with a superb solo goal from their Brazilian, Ratinho.
