Clive Mendonca scored for the fifth time in five days yesterday to lift Charlton into sixth place in the First Division but was furious he did not complete his second hat-trick of the week.
The 29-year-old striker, recruited from Grimsby in the summer, netted the first and last of his new side's goals as they maintained their 100 per cent home record, but believed he should have scored another at the finish.
Bradford had Peter Beagrie sent off for a second bookable offence in the 54th minute but the damage had already been done with Charlton scoring three out of four goals in a frenetic 15-minute spell in the first half. Mendonca gave them the lead after eight minutes only for Bradford to pull level in controversial manner when the Brazilian Edhino appeared to push a fine Beagrie cross into the net with his hand.
Charlton regained the lead when Paul Mortimer beat three defenders to score and then added further goals through full-back Steve Brown from 30 yards and Mendonca.
