Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It was Juve's third league defeat of the season - and their first in 16 league and cup matches. It was also their first in Turin since losing to Sampdoria by the same score exactly a year ago. To add to their disbelief a week after their 6-1 humiliation of Milan, the Italian international Christian Vieri and France's Zinedine Zidane both missed second-half penalties.
The Brazilian, Marcio Amoroso, struck twice and Germany's Oliver Bierhoff added a third as Udinese made light of the third-minute dismissal of their former Coventry defender, Regis Genaux. Udinese scored all their goals before the 59th-minute dismissal of the Juventus midfielder, Alessio Tacchinardi. Parma took full advantage of their title rivals' distress to beat Roma courtesy of a goal from the Argentinian forward, Hernan Crespo.
PSV Eindhoven stayed on top of the Dutch First Division by beating Ajax 2-0 to inflict a first league defeat since the winter break on the Amsterdam club. PSV proved more aggressive and creative than Ajax who, without the injured Patrick Kluivert and the suspended Jari Litmanen, looked jaded.
Philip Cocu gave PSV the lead in the first half with a shot which curled away from the Ajax goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar. In the second half the Belgian striker, Gilles de Bilde, settled the match with his second goal in two games for PSV.
Bayern Munich opened a big lead at the top of Germany's Bundesliga with a convincing 3-2 win over Cologne while Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 3-2 defeat at lowly Duisburg. Two goals from Ruggiero Rizzitelli and one from Jurgen Klinsmann put Bayern five points clear.
