Football: Inter see a glimmer of hope: Italian football
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.AFTER apparently chasing a hopeless cause all season, there is now just a glimmer of hope at the top of Serie A for Internazionale. The faltering champions, Milan, lost 3-1 at home to Juventus on Saturday, while their city rivals won by the same score at Brescia yesterday to narrow the gap to five points, with six matches left.
Inter are on a roll - they have not been beaten for 14 weeks, while Milan's six-match run without a victory is their worst sequence since 1985-86.
Ruben Sosa, the Uruguayan striker, did the business for Inter at Brescia, scoring twice in four minutes soon after Ioan Sabau had given the home side the lead. Sosa then set up Salvatore Schillaci for a late goal that sealed the points.
The scoring pattern was the same at the San Siro, where Marco Simone gave Milan an early lead before the German forward, Andreas Moller, struck twice before the break for Juventus. Roberto Baggio's fine solo goal settled the issue.
The capital derby between Lazio and Roma ended in a 0-0 draw, with Lazio's point being enough to keep them in third place, ahead of Juventus and Parma on goal difference. Roberto Cravero, the Lazio defender, was sent off in the first half after an altercation with Ruggiero Rizzitelli.
