Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gascoigne's club, Lazio, said the light surgery 'went according to the best predictions', and that the player will join the team on 18 July and carry out a physical exercise programme.
Nigel Worthington, the Sheffield Wednesday left- back, yesterday agreed to join Leeds United after rejecting a new contract at Hillsborough.
The 32-year-old Northern Ireland international has accepted a two-year deal. The Leeds manager, Howard Wilkinson, said the clubs had not settled a fee but he was hopeful of reaching agreement 'in the next day or two'. It is the third time Wilkinson has signed Worthington, who can also play on the left of midfield. He took him to Notts County from Ballymena in 1981 and signed him for Wednesday for pounds 100,000 in 1984.
Steve Froggatt, Aston Villa's England Under-21 winger, has agreed a four-year deal with Wolves. Froggatt is valued in excess of pounds 1m.
Ray Clemence, the Barnet manager, yesterday ended speculation that Alan Cork might join the North London club. Cork, freed by Sheffield United, had been linked with the Underhill side, who have signed his former Wimbledon colleague Terry Gibson. But Clemence denied the possibility of a move. 'I don't know where the idea came from,' he said.
Michael Laudrup, Barcelona's Danish international, yesterday signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid. Laudrup will cost about pounds 1m.
