From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

MARSEILLE completed their fifth consecutive French title triumph with a 3-1 home over Paris St Germain last night, writes Rupert Metcalf. The visitors' Vincent Guerin opened the scoring, but Rudi Voller, Basile Boli and Alen Boksic hit back to add the domestic championship to the European Cup they won on Wednesday.

Trouble flared when smoke bombs and missiles were hurled on the pitch and the game was stopped for a few minutes after visiting fans rioted.

Roy Keane, Nottingham Forest's coveted midfielder, took just 14 seconds to find the back of the net for the Republic of Ireland in David O'Leary's testimonial against the Hungarian national side at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, yesterday. Niall Quinn added a second, but the Hungarians hit back to win 4-2.

Barnsley have agreed a fee of pounds 200,000 for the Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Danny Wilson, who is expected to be named as the First Division club's player- coach. His Hillsborough team- mate, Viv Anderson, is likely to follow him to Oakwell in a player- manager's role.

The German Bundesliga title race will be settled in next Saturday's final round of matches, after Werder Bremen hammered Hamburg 5-0 yesterday to take over at the top of the table from Bayern Munich - with a goal-difference advantage of one. Bayern beat lowly VfL Bochum 3-1.

Leicester City yesterday announced their team to play Swindon in the First Division play-off final at Wembley tomorrow.

LEICESTER CITY: Poole; Mills, Whitlow, Smith, Walsh, Hill, Oldfield, Thompson, Joachim, Agnew, Philpott. Subs: Ormondroyd, Gibson.
