Football: County take points home
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

County went ahead at Watford when Jason Drysdale's mistake gifted Mark Draper with the opening goal but he equalised a minute later. Second-half goals by Gary Lund and Steve Slawson took the points from Vicarage Road.
West Ham also won 3-1, recovering from Tony Adcock's 18th minute goal. Trevor Morley and Martin Allen scored two in three minutes and Kevin Keen put Hammers out of reach before half-time. Derby County, highly fancied for promotion, remain unimpressive. Barnsley, who had notscored in their two League matches at Oakwell this season, went into a 58th minute lead but Paul Kitson equalised for County ten minutes later. Derby's goal and point put Luton, who play at Brentford today, bottom .
IN Scotland, Rangers stayed top of the Premier after a convincing 4-1 win at Firhill Park. Partick took a tenth minute lead through George Shaw, who scored four there a fortnight ago. But Dave McPherson equalised 15 minutes later and second half goals by Stuart McCall, Richard Gough and Mark Hateley cut down Thistle. Hibs, the only team to beat Celtic in the League since 4 January did it again yesterday, twice coming from behind to win 3-2.
Leyton Orient went second in the Second Division after a frantic 4-3 win over Chester, City's second defeat by that score this season. Leading 4-1 with 10 minutes remaining, Orient lost two goals and Kenny Achampong, sent off, but held on to the points. They've now scored a dozen at Brisbane Road and conceded six. High scoring elsewhere in the division as Hull, who were second, crashed 5-3 at Stockport County for whom Chris Beaumont and Kevin Francis scored two apiece. Mansfield, one off the bottom at kick-off, also scored five, against Bradford.
YORK remain in charge in the Third Division after their 2-1 victory at Carlisle. Barnet, who slipped to fourth, and Bury, who moved up one to fifth, fought a tight goalless draw at Gigg Lane, which obliged Crewe, who moved into second place. It was a day for obliging Crewe. Their 4-0 win over Doncaster included two penalties and Rovers also had Paul Crichton sent off. Cardiff can go second if they beat Hereford today. Colchester, who started the day bottom of the League, doubled their points when they beat Walsall.
Spare a thought, or anything, for Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are not exactly doing justice to their nickname. Tipped by many to win promotion after finishing third last season, they arethe only team in Premier or Barclays League yet to win a point, much less a game. Yesterday, it was not nice to be beside the seaside. They lost at Brighton, who are now third.
