The Aston Villa player, a possible successor to Peter Schmeichel at Manchester United next season, is Australia's first choice and could be selected as one of three over-23 players for the home Olympics.
But Bosnich says it would be hard to take his place in the team if he is not there during qualifying.
"I have made myself available to the powers that be but I've also said ... though I'd dearly love to play in Sydney I would like the opportunity for a young kid who's trying to make his way in the game to play in the Olympic Games so he could perhaps further himself," Bosnich said in a television interview in Australia yesterday.
