Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

CHELSEA should crucify Middlesbrough in the CocaCola Cup final at Wembley on Sunday. Middlesbrough have begun to show the same propensity to leak goals in the Nationwide League that precipitated their materialisation in that sphere. Chelsea, on the other hand, put in two much-improved displays at the back when dispatching Real Betis in the Cup-Winners' Cup and remain awesome going forward.

Chelsea are now favourites for this European trophy but face a useful Vicenza side in the semis. Some punters may prefer VfB Stuttgart, who should brush aside outsiders Locomotiv Moscow.

Juventus are favourites for the European Cup after their devastating win in Kiev, but Internazionale are Uefa Cup market leaders only by virtue of the fact they have drawn Spartak Moscow. Lazio, who play ante-post selection Atletico Madrid, are in great form and make more appeal.

William Hill's betting (4-7 Cambridge, 5-4 Oxford) on the Boat Race suggests this year's renewal might, for once, be of interest to those of us who either are not Oxbridge educated or cannot get hold of some mogadon. The team that draws the Surrey side is the one to be on.
