Japan are expected to confirm on Monday that they are joining rivals South Korea in the quest to stage the 2002 World Cup finals. The deadline for bids is on Tuesday.

Rangers have brought forward their Bell's Scottish League Premier division game against Falkirk at Ibrox to Saturday 11 March 11 from Tuesday 21 March, as both sides are out of the Tennents Scottish Cup.

David Oldfield, the Leicester midfielder, has joined Millwall on a month's loan, while the loan spells of Phil Gee to Plymouth and Ian Ormondroyd to Hull have been extended for a further month.
