Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The British men's epee championships at Hendon tomorrow will be the last chance for top British fencers to prepare for the forthcoming international circuit, which starts on 6 March with the Challenge Martini event. In contention for tomorrow night's final are the defending champion, John Llewellyn, from Reading, and the London fencers, Rob Gore, The British No 1, and Mike Corish, the top Martini qualifier. However, two other fencers could produce a surprise. Steven Paul, of London's Salle Paul Club, must improve on his British ranking of sixth if he is to gain a place in Britain's squad for the world championships in Essen this summer, while John Chalmers, who eliminated the No 1 seed at a World Cup series event in Barcelona last November, has been performing well on the domestic circuit. The team event will be contested on Sunday.
How to get there: Peel Centre, Metropolitan Police Training College, Aerodrome Road, Hendon, north-west London. Nearest tube station: Colindale (Northern line). Fencing starts at 9am tomorrow with final scheduled for 7pm.
