Fallon banned over `non-trier'
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A four-day ban was imposed on Kieren Fallon at Nottingham yesterday after the jockey was found guilty under the non-triers' rule.
Fallon, riding Champion Hurdle aspirant Dato Star, dropped his hands inside the final furlong and was denied second place on the line by Luca Cumani's Sea of Stone. Totem Dancer was the clear winner.
The track stewards ruled that he had failed to ride out Malcolm Jefferson's 6-5 favourite to the line, and suspended him from riding on 2, 4, 5, 7 November.
Fallon, who will leave Britain in a fortnight's time to ride in America for the rest of the year, pleaded guilty as charged. "I finished third and I should have finished second,'' he said. ``I will have gone to America by the time of the ban, anyway."
Dato Star may now be aimed by trainer Malcolm Jefferson at the November Handicap at Doncaster on 9 November.
