Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The full-back, Derrick Lee, posted a personal tally of 25 points from two tries, three penalties and three conversions and injected pace into a Scottish back line which at times looked flat-footed.
Scotland's forwards never gained any control on the game and it was the committed Falcons side, eager to claim a northern hemisphere scalp, that played with a winning passion.
Scotland trailed 16-14 at half-time, after a try by the Falcons flanker, De Wet Strydom, and a combination of skilful play from Falcons and a series of errors from Scotland allowed the home side to run in tries by the stand- off, Porta Hoffman, and the hooker, Jan Bosch.
The Falcons fell behind midway through the first-half when a Scottish breakaway ended with Lee touching down. Scotland, after a third-quarter slump which saw them trail 33-14, rallied with a try by flanker Cameron Mather and two late tries from the wing, Shaun Longstaff.
All three were converted by Lee but inbetween Falcons had scored vital points from a Van Riet try and a crucial fourth penalty from the goalkicker, Gert Peens.
"You can only play with what you've got," said Scotland's tour manager, Doug Morgan, who has clearly saved his best players for tomorrow night's tough game in Pretoria against Northern Transvaal.

A local player, Mike Davies, standing in for the full-back Campbell Aitken, claimed four of the tries, with Iain Sinclair, Gareth Flockhart and Alan Bulloch also scoring. Mark McKenzie converted two of the tries and kicked one successful penalty.
