Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

All three Tenerife goals were scored by Argentinians: Juan Antonio Pizzi converted two penalties before being sent off early in the second half along with Maradona - both men departing for dissent after the second penalty. The police and the Seville coach, Carlos Bilardo, had to intervene to calm the combatants. Seville also lost Marcos de la Fuente, who went for receiving two yellow cards.
Oscar Dertycia stayed on the pitch and added the third goal in the 72nd minute to please Tenerife's coach, Jorge Valdano, a colleague of Maradona in the 1986 World Cup-winning side, which was coached by Bilardo.
Bebeto, Deportivo La Coruna's Brazilian striker, scored a hat- trick in a 3-0 home win over Espanol to keep his side one point ahead of Barcelona at the top of the Spanish league. The champions beat Celta Vigo 2-0 with goals from Miguel Nadal and Richard Witschge; they will take over as leaders if they beat Oviedo on Wednesday.
