Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Edwards produced a superb fifth-round jump of 17.69 metres to defeat the man who beat him at the Olympics, Kenny Harrison, who jumped 17.16. He said he would invest the winnings for his young family.
Frankie Fredericks, the Olympic silver medallist, produced a major surprise, defeating the double Olympic champion Michael Johnson in the 200m to claim his golden bonus. The Namibian, who finished second behind Johnson when the American set a world record of 19.32sec at the Atlanta Games, prevailed in an intense battle down the home straight to win in 19.97sec.
Johnson had to settle for second place in 20.02sec with Ato Boldon, the Trinidadian who won the Olympic bronze medal, finishing in third place in 20.37.
There 20 one-kilo gold bars to be shared between athletes who win specific events at all the four meetings in Oslo, Zurich, Brussels and Berlin, the most lucrative series in the sport.
