E International Amateur Athletic Federation is considering a recommendation to move its headquarters from London to Monte Carlo, one of a number of proposals being put to the IAAF Congress which starts in Stuttgart today.
The proposed relocation by the ruling council is part of a cost-cutting exercise. Only five of the IAAF's 23 council members had voted against adding the item to the Congress' agenda. Primo Nebiolo, the IAAF president, has backed a campaign to end London's 50-year reign as the home base for the federation.
Meanwhile, Katrin Krabbe's attempt to entice officials to hasten their ruling on her recent doping ban suffered a setback yesterday. The IAAF council did not discuss the case of the German sprinter - who has admitted taking the drug clenbuterol - at a meeting before the world championships. The postponement is a blow to the sprinter and the German athletics federation which had urged the IAAF to make a quick ruling.
