Your support makes all the difference.The Derbyshire captain, Phil DeFreitas, completed his third five- wicket haul of the season to earn his side a first-innings lead of 80 against Durham at Chester-le-Street yesterday.
Durham, who have not gained a batting bonus point since mid-June, were all out for 174 before lunch.
Devon Malcolm struck with the first ball of the day when Durham resumed on 109 for 6: the first-day century-maker Chris Adams holding a stunning one-handed catch low to his left at second slip to remove Mike Foster for 37.
Malcolm failed to take another wicket in his seven overs and DeFreitas came on to mop up the tail with three wickets in five overs and finished with 5 for 37. Adams left the field with an eye problem, which prompted Derbyshire to shuffle their order with unwelcome results.
Kim Barnett went in first with Michael May dropping to No 3, but Barnett was chiefly responsible for the run out of Adrian Rollins in the first over and then fell for five to a bat-pad catch off Simon Brown, who went on to take five wickets as Derbyshire were dismissed for 176.
May, with 64, was the top scorer. In response, Durham soon slumped to 42 for 3.
