Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.John Deehan last night stepped down as the manager of Norwich City in a response to the crisis that has put the club in danger of relegation, writes Trevor Haylett. His assistant, Gary Megson, is expected to take over for the remainder of the season.
Deehan was appointed in January last year after Mike Walker had departed for Everton. At the turn of the year, Norwich were seventh in the Premiership and aiming for Europe, but a disastrous 1995 in which they have won just once in 14 games has seriously undermined confidence.
Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Newcastle was their third in eight days and the final straw. Deehan's letter of resignation was accepted by the board last night, chairman Robert Chase paying tribute to Deehan's "courage" in making his decision now to give his successor a chance of keeping the Canaries in the top flight.
