The Tour de France champion has suffered a fall and a puncture that have hampered his efforts to keep pace with local favourite Vincenzo Nibali and the impressive Cadel Evans.
“I never expected it to be as straightforward as the Tour last year,” Wiggins said. “It’s been a tough challenge, but we knew it’d be that way.”
Nibali leads Evans by 29 seconds, with Wiggins in fourth place behind Robert Gesink.
