Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Orica-GreenEDGE rider finished five seconds clear of Lotto-Belisol's Andre Greipel while Steele Von Hoff of Garmin-Sharp was a further two seconds back.
"I guess I've surprised a few, myself included," Gerrans told http://www.tourdownunder.com.au. "Obviously Andre is one of the fastest sprinters around.
"It was a tough finale and everyone was tired. I had to sprint really late because of the head wind (and) looking towards the end of the week, it might have been better if Andre had the lead but we've seen in the past few years that this race is won or lost by seconds, so you have to take every opportunity.
"Every second counts. I hope it's not too early to hold the jersey but we have a fantastic squad here, so I'm optimistic for keeping the lead till the end."
Geraint Thomas was 11 seconds off the pace for Team Sky, with Australian team-mate Richie Porte a further four seconds behind.
