Yorkshire brought back down to earth
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Only 24 hours after piling up 352 for 6 against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough, their total of 137 for 9 was 54 less than Darren Lehmann's individual score the day before. Lehmann made only 14 until he went as part of Mo Sheikh's career-best 4 for 17 and Anthony McGrath, his partner in a stand of 172 at North Marine Road, managed a top score of 38.
Yorkshire were in trouble as Gavin Hamilton was well caught on the leg-side by Keith Piper from the first ball of the match by Charlie Dagnall.
Dougie Brown quickly removed the other opener, Matthew Wood, as Warwickshire continued their bid to overhaul Kent for the runners-up position in the one-day league.
All the seamers prospered on a lively, sometimes unreliable pitch and Sheikh whistled through the batting. McGrath gave a stinging low catch to Brown at cover, Craig White was bowled off stump, and Gary Fellows top-edged to mid-on after hitting Sheikh for six.
David Byas did his best to prop up the lower order, but after battling for 17, the Yorkshire captain played across a straight ball in Brown's second spell. Alan Richardson bowled Richard Blakey and Yorkshire's day was summed up when Brown made another intervention by running out Ryan Sidebottom.
In the field, there was brief hope when Matthew Hoggard's second ball hit the off stump to dismiss Mark Wagh. Hamilton later held a good catch at mid-on to minimise Brown's impact with the bat, but Nick Knight made 53 from and put on 64 with David Hemp. Knight was caught off Lehmann but his partner was unbeaten with 43.
