The selectors have continued the experimentation begun under the previous captain, Carl Hooper, with the fast bowler Fidel Edwards being added to the squad. He could replace Jerome Taylor in the XI.
The tourists must find a way to stem the West Indies captain, Brian Lara. He made a brilliant 209 in his last innings, making him the fifth batsman in history to score five or more double centuries in Tests.
"We have a lot of respect for Brian and he has been batting very well," the Sri Lankan captain, Hashan Tillakaratne, said.
Kumar Dharmasena may replace Thilan Samaraweera, who scored 11 and conceded 53 from eight overs in the first Test.
