Your support makes all the difference.Warwickshire are set to announce Ottis Gibson as their new director of cricket, a source close to the West Indies' coach has revealed. It is a coup for the county champions and a blow for Caribbean cricket.
The position became vacant last November when Ashley Giles became England's limited-overs coach in order to reduce head coach Andy Flower's workload. It is thought the considerable demands in time and travel made on international coaches has played a part in Gibson's decision to move.
The 43-year-old spent two and a half years as England bowling coach – after playing for Durham, Leicestershire and Glamorgan, leaving in February 2010 to lead the country he represented in two Tests and 15 ODIs. He won last year's World T20 and brought some stability to West Indian cricket, but internecine battles, disputes with senior players and widespread criticism have taken their toll. Gibson was chosen ahead of the former New Zealand coach Andy Moles, the ECB's performance director, David Parsons, and Warwickshire stalwarts Dougie Brown and Graeme Welch.
