From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael Vaughan admitted that he would need more county cricket to build up his fitness after coming through Yorkshire's four-day match against Hampshire on Saturday.

The England captain may return to international duty during the NatWest series against Sri Lanka, which begins in a fortnight. But Vaughan owned up to feeling "a few aches and pains" after Yorkshire's defeat in the First Division of the County Championship.

He made one and 56 with the bat, in his first championship match of the season, and said: "I know that it is hard for people to accept that I am playing for Yorkshire and not England but I am some way off being at an international standard of fitness at the moment. I have been hidden a bit in the field in this game and I have to make sure that when I come back for England I am 100 per cent fit. I am still some way from being 100 per cent and have got a few aches and pains but my progress is on the rise."
