Lehmann claimed England’s approach is not the style of cricket he would choose to play, which prompted Pietersen to remind the 43-year-old of their Ashes series defeat this summer.
Pietersen posted to his 1.34 million Twitter followers: “I can’t remember the score line in Ashes.. 3-0 or almost 4-0??”
Lehmann had previously caused a stir during England’s march to a 3-0 success this summer when he accused Stuart Broad of cheating. Now he has spoken out again against Andy Flower’s side, claiming Australia are confident of exploiting England’s weaknesses in the winter series Down Under.
Asked on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Tuffers and Vaughan programme for his impression of England’s style, he said: “Dour. It’s not the type of cricket I’d play. At times I’d like to see their over rates picked up.”
He added: “We’ve found England cracks and worked out plans. I’m always confident.”
Lehmann also insisted Australia have got into the head of batsman Jonathan Trott, and said his side have worked out detailed ways of overcoming England’s strengths with the bat.
“He’s a good player, we know that. But I think we’ve worked out plans, which seem to work for most of their batters.”
