Struggling Derbyshire crumble to a new low
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Derbyshire, the team at the bottom of the Second Division, hit a new low at the Racecourse Ground yesterday, crumbling to 106 all out against Warwickshire. Derbyshire offered practically no resistance in the face of the seam of Charlie Dagnall, who finished with 6 for 50, and Dougie Brown, with 4 for 20.
Warwickshire had time to make one without loss in reply before rain arrived to stop play.
Sussex's closest pursuers for the leadership of the Second Division, Hampshire, reduced Nottinghamshire to 56 for 4, before Usman Afzaal, with 75no, and Bilal Shafayat, with 42, launched the recovery in a 97-run stand for the fifth wicket on the way to 164 for 5 at Trent Bridge.
Middlesex's Robin Weston (106) figured in a 143-run opening stand with Andy Strauss (92) on the way to his century against Worcestershire at New Road. Strauss dominated the early passage of play before the Londoners lost four wickets for 15 runs. But Weston found another ally in Paul Weekes (45no), hitting a 164-ball century which helped Middlesex to 258 for 6.
Yorkshire were presented with their silverware for winning their first championship in 33 years during the lunch break on a rain-shortened day against Essex at Scarborough. Again fielding a side shorn of many of their big-name players, Yorkshire were unable to prevent relegated Essex reaching 99 for 3. Also in the First Division, Glamorgan reach 258 all out against Surrey at Cardiff.
