From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Captain Andrew Strauss was right to miss England's forthcoming tour of Bangladesh, according to Stuart Broad.

Strauss was rested for the tour - with Alastair Cook promoted to skipper - as England's selectors had one eye on the Ashes tour to Australia, which begins in November.

The move sparked controversy, with Shane Warne among the critics of the move which some suggest shows England are not taking Bangladesh seriously.

But Broad backs the move, citing Ricky Ponting's break during Australia's tour to England last summer as an example of a successful rest.

"I really don't see why Straussy taking a rest is such a big issue to debate - for me, I think it's a wise decision," Broad told The Sun.

"If we go to Australia and defend The Ashes, then it won't be mentioned again.

"In the meantime, we have to go to Dubai and Bangladesh and play so well that people aren't given anything to talk about on that front - wickets, big hundreds, that's the answer.

"We can then come home with no questions asked and Straussy can slot straight back in."

England travel to Dubai next week for two One-day Internationals with Pakistan before travelling on to Bangladesh, where they will play three one-dayers and two Tests.

Broad is confident Cook has the character to step up into the top job.

"When Alastair speaks everyone listens," added Broad.

"We're there to help Cookie on this tour too. There are no divides and people can speak up in the dressing room."
