From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Having waited six years to get back in the England team following his solitary Test cap Ryan Sidebottom is in no hurry to chuck it all away and follow the scent of the dollar eminating from the Indian Premier League.

The left-armer has enjoyed quite a return to the international scene in the last 12 months, having previously made only one Test appearance back in 2001. Many of his international team-mates have expressed a desire to land a chunk of the huge sums of money floating about the subcontinent's leading Twenty20 jamboree but the 30-year-old is content in his shiny new England whites.

"As for the IPL, I want to play Test cricket and play for England. It means a lot more than a ton of cash," Sidebottom said in an interview for the July issue of The Wisden Cricketer magazine: "I've had a lot of disappointments in my career," he added. "I think the experience of playing Tests is more intense for me because of the six years I had to wait."

While cash is not an incentive for Sidebottom, Nottinghamshire, his county, are keen to impress in the Twenty20 Cup this year, perhaps driven by the new Champions League, and to that extent are hoping to sign the former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns in time for the start of their campaign tomorrow when they play Yorkshire. Cairns is 38 tomorrow and first played for the county 20 years ago.
