From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Durham clinched their first LV County Championship Division One victory of the season after a 15-run win over Middlesex in a low-scoring contest at Chester-le-Street.

The strugglers took the last three wickets for four runs in the space of 38 balls as Middlesex failed to chase down a victory target of 118.

Ben Stokes took the final two wickets finishing with figures of two for eight, while Graham Onions (three for 38) and Chris Rushworth (four for 41) shared the remaining wickets between them. The results still leaves Durham bottom of the table but they are within touching distance of their rivals.

The morning started badly for Middlesex as they lost John Simpson without adding to his total of 10. Toby Roland-Jones notched 34 before he was caught by wicketkeeper Michael Richardson and Gareth Berg only managed five before he was dismissed. The wickets of Rayner (11) and Murtagh (three) then fell in quick succession as Middlesex were all out for 102.

Title hopefuls Nottinghamshire declared at 520 for four as James Taylor celebrated his England call-up by adding 57 to his overnight score to finish on 163 not out. But Sussex closed on 146 without loss in their second innings at Trent Bridge with openers Ed Joyce and Chris Nash making 63 not out and 79 not out respectively.

Surrey are in danger of a big defeat against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. The league leaders, who made a mammoth 571 in their first innings, bowled out the visitors for 286, with Rikki Clarke picking up four wickets and Chris Woakes – who must be making the England selectors sit up and take notice of his recent all-round displays – claiming three victims. Following on, Surrey were 38 without loss at the close.

In Division Two, a full day's play was not possible at Grace Road but Yorkshire still advanced to 486 all out, with Adam Lyth carrying his bat for a monumental 248 not out. A wicket apiece from Anthony McGrath and Steve Harmison meant the Foxes closed on 57 for 2 in their second dig. Kent, meanwhile, took their overnight total to 438 for 8 in another rain-affected match at the Rose Bowl.
