Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wahab Riaz, one of two Kent overseas signings for this competition, took five wickets in seven balls – including a hat-trick – before Azhar Mahmood struck a century to secure an eight-wicket win for the home side. Joe Denly also hit 50 as Gloucestershire suffered a fifth defeat in this year's competition.
Mahmood's was not the only ton of the evening: Marcus Tresc-othick's 108, which included five sixes, was the mainstay of Somerset's mammoth 225 at Chelmsford. James Hildreth also struck 64 as the West County side put together a strong response to their defeat at Hove the previous night.
Essex's reaction was utterly feeble. With the New Zealander Scott Styris unable to bat, they were dismissed for just 82 – securing in the process a 143-run defeat, a record loss in this competition.
