From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spinner Monty Panesar has signed a three-year contract extension at Sussex.

The 29-year-old was the second-highest wicket-taker in Division One of the LV County Championship this year, behind only Worcestershire veteran Alan Richardson, and has taken 121 first-class wickets in two seasons since moving to Hove from Northamptonshire, adding 42 in limited-overs cricket.

He said: "I am delighted to have pledged my future to Sussex and I am equally pleased in the commitment that the club have shown to me.

"The club is going through an exciting period and I'm looking forward to helping them challenge for trophies. I aim to repay their faith by continuing my good form in all formats of the game whilst also improving my chances of reclaiming my place in the England side."

Sussex's professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: "Monty is one of the best finger spinners in the world and we know how lucky we are to have him here at Hove".
