Your support makes all the difference.Leicestershire were handed a five-run penalty in their match against Lancashire on Sunday after bowler Dieter Klein hurled a ball at batsman Danny Lamb from close range.
The incident occurred on the second day of the Bob Willis Trophy match between the two teams.
Klein’s initial delivery was driven back towards the bowler by Lamb, who seemed to follow his shot through by momentarily stepping over the crease.
The batsman immediately stepped back behind the line, but Klein quickly gathered the ball and hurled it at the Lancashire player in a poorly judged attempt to get him out.
The ball struck Lamb hard on the foot, causing him to limp away in pain.
Lancashire were awarded five runs as a result, with the umpire counting the incident as a level 2 offence, following law 42.
The specific law broken was 42.3.1 for “throwing the ball at a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner”.
At the end of play, Lancashire (322, all out) had a 139-run lead over Leicestershire (183-2).
