Somerset had looked set to record a fourth successive victory after Peter Trego (118), Alviro Petersen (63 not out) and Marcus Trescothick (57) led them to 323 for 3. But Cobb made 130 off 87 balls while Smith finished unbeaten on 135 as the hosts won by six wickets.
Elsewhere in Group C, Gloucestershire beat Unicorns by 29 runs at Bristol. Nottinghamshire saw off Holland by 89 runs for their fifth straight victory in Group A. Sussex and Northamptonshire were also victorious. In Group B, Derbyshire saw off Scotland by six wickets in Edinburgh. Scotland made 182 for 9, but the visitors rarely looked in danger after Chesney Hughes (74) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (54) put on 120 for the first wicket in reply.
Mumbai claim their first title
An unbeaten 60 from just 32 balls by Kieron Pollard helped Mumbai Indians to a 23-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League final. Set a target of 149 to win, MS Dhoni's 63 not out from 45 balls for Chennai was not enough as Mumbai claimed their first-ever IPL title.
