From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The South Africa captain suffered a fracture to his troublesome left hand during the one-day leg of the tour and has since been receiving constant treatment. Smith did not open the batting in the second innings, with Hashim Amla stepping up the order in his place and top-scoring with 62 as the Proteas reached stumps on 173 for 4, a lead of 323.
New Zealand's batsmen surrendered meekly to India's attack in Nagpur yesterday to give the hosts victory by an innings and 198 runs and a 1-0 series win. Paceman Ishant Sharma and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh led the attack as India dismissed the tourists for a paltry 175 in their second innings. Sharma took 3 for 15, while Harbhajan, who won the player of the series for his all-round effort with bat and ball, added the wickets of Gareth Hopkins and Ross Taylor to his overnight scalp of Tim McIntosh.
