From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Simon Jones has warned Glamorgan that he may leave the club unless he is given more opportunities in limited-overs cricket to help him force his way into England's one-day line-up.
Jones was a peripheral figure at Sophia Gardens last season as Glamorgan won the National League title and has played only 10 one-day domestic matches since making his county debut 10 years ago.
Having been selected for his first England one-day squad - which landed yesterday in Namibia for a week of acclimatisation before their five-match series in Zimbabwe - Jones is keen to gain the experience necessary to become a regular at international level. He still has a year to run on his present contract, and Glamorgan have offered him a two-year extension.
Glamorgan could point to an impressive record of 11 wins out of 16 games in the National League last season as evidence that their selection policy was correct. They could also add that during his 10 career matches Jones has claimed only four wickets at an average of 105.75 and an economy rate of 5.70.
But Jones said: "It is not nice to be labelled just as a four-day player or a Test player. You want to succeed at cricket and succeed at all levels, and when you are not given a chance that is very frustrating because you don't get to prove to people what you can do. That has happened over the last couple of years at Glamorgan.
"I am not saying I am going and I am not saying I am staying," Jones said. "I am just thinking about it and trying to do what is best for me.
Jones is part of a quartet within the England squad yet to play a one-day international. The others are Kevin Pietersen, of Hampshire, Warwickshire's Ian Bell and Sussex's Matt Prior.
* Worcestershire have signed the Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for next season, subject to clearance from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
