From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England claimed a six-wicket victory over the West Indies to ensure their progression to the Super Six stage of the Women's Twenty20 World Cup in Mumbai.

Having bowled out their opponents for 101, the reigning champions had few problems in hunting down their target for the loss of four wickets.

Danielle Wyatt led the way with the bat, scoring a career-best 40, before she fell lbw to Subrina Munroe, while bowler Anya Shrubsole claimed impressive figures of 4 for 21.

England will now check on Yorkshire seamer Katherine Brunt's fitness before Friday's Super Six fixture with rivals Australia, who have won all three of their matches at the tournament in comprehensive fashion. Brunt had claimed two wickets for 10 runs before suffering an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad dispelled many of the doubts over his fitness with a hat-trick as England surged to a 46-run T20 victory over a New Zealand XI in the opening warm-up match of their tour.

The 26-year-old, who returned from the tour of India in December with a bruised heel, took three wickets in the final of his four overs to lead the tourists to a convincing win at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

With Monday's game washed out, the tourists were keen to get the tour up and running with a good performance. They registered 186 for 3 in their 20 overs, with Jos Buttler hitting 57 not out from just 24 balls.

Eoin Morgan and Luke Wright also gave useful contributions with 48 not out and 44 respectively, giving Broad and his side confidence on the batting front ahead of the opening T20 against New Zealand on Saturday.
