Kent claimed an overall lead of 122 after reaching 147 for 4 on the second day of their County Championship First Division match against Leicestershire at Canterbury yesterday.

An unbroken partnership of 79 between Mark Ealham and Matthew Walker steadied the home side's innings after they were reduced to 68 for 4 with Phil DeFreitas taking 3 for 22.

Kent had earlier dismissed Leicestershire for 270. Paul Nixon – in his first match in his second spell since returning to the Foxes from Kent – was the mainstay of the visitors' innings, with an unbeaten 113.

In the Second Division, Glamorgan reached 128 for 2 in response to Hampshire who declared their first innings on 531 for 7. Dimitri Mascarenhas had starred in the visitors' innings, scoring 100 off just 78 balls in two hours at the crease.

Play was washed out after lunch at Northampton with Gloucestershire 61 for 1 in response to the home side's total of 352 all out, with just 14 added to their overnight score.

Durham's captain, Jon Lewis hit his second half-century of the match as his side reached 153 for 5 in their second innings at Taunton. After the morning session was washed out, Somerset had been bowled out for 171, to concede a first innings lead of 14. Steve Harmison and Vince Wells each took three wickets.
