An unbroken partnership of 79 between Mark Ealham and Matthew Walker steadied the home side's innings after they were reduced to 68 for 4 with Phil DeFreitas taking 3 for 22.
Kent had earlier dismissed Leicestershire for 270. Paul Nixon – in his first match in his second spell since returning to the Foxes from Kent – was the mainstay of the visitors' innings, with an unbeaten 113.
