Durham call for Yorkshire cup exit over Rafiq

Durham yesterday demanded that Yorkshire be thrown out of the Twenty20 Cup for causing the chaos which saw the sides' quarter-final called off on Monday after the England and Wales Cricket Board discovered the visitors had fielded an ineligible player, Azeem Rafiq, in their final group game 11 days ago.

Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan admitted yesterday that "the buck stops with me" over the eligibility debacle – the club not only neglected to register the player as a first-teamer with the ECB, but it then emerged he does not hold a British passport.

Yorkshire face an ECB disciplinary hearing today. Durham's chief executive David Harker said: "The only fair outcome now is that we go to the finals and if it's a result of Yorkshire being kicked out, then so be it."
