From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A superb innings from captain M S Dhoni led India to a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia in the fourth match of the triangular ODI series at Adelaide Oval yesterday.

Needing 13 off the last over – and 12 off the final four balls – Dhoni (44 not out) belted a six high over long-on before a Clint McKay no-ball allowed the Indian captain a second life after he was caught on the boundary.

India ran two from the no-ball and Dhoni then scored three from the next ball to give his side only their second win in all formats over Australia this winter. Gautam Gambhir's 92 had put India on course for victory, McKay taking 3 for 53. Earlier, the debutant Peter Forrest (66) and veteran David Hussey (72) had guided Australia to 269 for 8.
