Clare followed up Thursday's maiden first-class century with 5 for 52 as Derbyshire continued to dominate at Wantage Road. The hosts closed on 296 for 7, still trailing by 189 runs.
Also in the Second Division, Middlesex were 10 without loss following on against Warwickshire at Uxbridge. Earlier the home side had been bowled out for 170 with Chris Martin and Darren Maddy claiming three wickets each. Owais Shah held the Middlesex first innings together with 42, while wicketkeeper Ben Scott weighed in with 37.
Hampshire are struggling to avoid defeat against Sussex at Arundel. Having followed on the visitors are 127 for 7, still 42 runs behind. German-born Ollie Rayner has so far returned 4 for 49 with his off-spin, having taken a couple of wickets in Hampshire's first innings. Corey Collymore took 4 for 60.
