Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jonathan Clare was the star of the show for the second day running as Derbyshire dominated on the third day of their Second Division game with Northamptonshire.

Clare followed up Thursday's maiden first-class century with 5 for 52 as Derbyshire continued to dominate at Wantage Road. The hosts closed on 296 for 7, still trailing by 189 runs.

Also in the Second Division, Middlesex were 10 without loss following on against Warwickshire at Uxbridge. Earlier the home side had been bowled out for 170 with Chris Martin and Darren Maddy claiming three wickets each. Owais Shah held the Middlesex first innings together with 42, while wicketkeeper Ben Scott weighed in with 37.

Hampshire are struggling to avoid defeat against Sussex at Arundel. Having followed on the visitors are 127 for 7, still 42 runs behind. German-born Ollie Rayner has so far returned 4 for 49 with his off-spin, having taken a couple of wickets in Hampshire's first innings. Corey Collymore took 4 for 60.
