Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A defiant last-wicket stand of 82 by England's Liam Plunkett and Danny Broadbent failed to prevent Australia levelling the under-19 Test series at 1-1 with a 168-run victory here at Jubilee Park yesterday.

Chasing an unlikely target of 365 on the final day of four, England fell well short, being dismissed for 196 despite a battling 49 from Plunkett and an unbeaten 22 from Broadbent

England began the day on 22 for 2 and soon knew they were in for an unequal struggle when the nightwatchman, Dave Stiff, went and he was quickly followed by the captain, Bilal Shafayat, who scored 108 and 66 in the first Test, for a duck.

Aaron Bird, 4 for 31, did most damage as England fell to 114 for 9 before Plunkett and Broadbent came together. They remained at the crease for almost 50 overs until Plunkett finally fell to a catch by Theo Doropoulos off the medium pace of Michael Bright. He faced 178 balls, while the No 11 Broadbent survived 151 deliveries.
