Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

He had a good start when he started as full-time Test captain in August 2012, but after the 5-0 Ashes defeat in 2013/2014, his leadership has been under intense scrutiny, and never more so than now.
"There is a lot written about my captaincy and it is important I sometimes get on the front foot," Cook said before the start of the first Test against Australia in Cardiff on July 8.
"If you look back at previous teams, they were more methodical. Maybe there's more opportunity to be on the front foot with the players we've got now. As a leader of a group you have to change probably your style of leadership to the players you've got in the changing room and what gets the best out of them."
Will Cook still be captain in 2016 after this Ashes series? Find out what Tom Collomosse thinks in the video above.
