CRICKET WORLD CUP: MEDIA MONITOR
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE DEBATE continues apace surrounding the earpieces used by the South African captain Hansie Cronje and his fast bowler Alan Donald to communicate with their coach Bob Woolmer during Saturday's match against India and is the dominant story in the newspapers. Following the match referee's decision to ask that the devices be removed Cronje wants the situation investigated as he feels his team have not broken any rules, while Woolmer insists he was merely being innovative. According to the Sunday Express the idea is likely to be stamped out by the International Cricket Council to avoid rival teams using blocking devices or tuning in to the same frequency and sending out bogus messages.
The Mail on Sunday report that England will keep faith in the team that defeated Sri Lanka at Lord's on Friday for tomorrow's match against Kenya at Canterbury. Nasser Hussain is apparently certain to keep his position at the top of the order in place of Nick Knight who is struggling for form.
