From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell recorded his maiden Test century one ball before tea on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand in Bridgetown, Barbados. At the close he was unbeaten on 149 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul on 81 as West Indies compiled 334 for four, replying to New Zealand's first innings of 195. Campbell, the 25-year- old Barbadian, reached his century to the immense delight of his home crowd when he straight-drove medium-pacer Gavin Larsen for his 16th four. His ton, which came in his 10th Test, spanned 253 minutes and 242 balls. Resuming at 167 for three at lunch, the West Indies added just 54 runs in the two-hour session while losing the wicket of left-hander Jimmy Adams, caught by wicketkeeper Lee Germon off paceman Justin Vaughan for 21. Chanderpaul, after a slow start, stroked two fours in the penultimate over before the interval off slow bowler Chris Harris, then Campbell square-drove Larsen to take him to 98. He brought up his century three balls later. Larsen, who dismissed Brian Lara for 35 in the second over of the day, took three for 45 off 23 overs.
