From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sri Lanka 303 & 93-7; South Africa 200

A DRAMATIC collapse by Sri Lanka left them thankful for their 103-run first innings lead on the third day of the second Test against South Africa at Centurion Park yesterday.

With the Allan Donald in inspired form, Sri Lanka were 42 for 6 before Aravinda de Silva, who made 41, and Pramodya Wickramasinghe put on 43 for the seventh wicket.

Four of the first seven batsmen were out for nought and there were two run-outs as the match underwent a remarkable change.

With Muttiah Muralitharan having taken 5 for 63, Sri Lanka were in control of the match when they started their second innings after tea, but the turnaround started when Donald bowled Sanath Jayasuriya to become the first South African and 33rd bowler in history to take 200 Test wickets.

With his next ball Donald had Roshan Mahanama lbw. He followed up by having Marvan Atapattu caught behind.
